Early Childhood Programs

The popular Preschool and Day School programs offer a developmentally appropriate curriculum with an arts and science focus–the first to do so in the Cleveland area. Innovative programming and teaching methods enhance students’ physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative growth and development. PhotoClassroom activities are augmented with performances given by Settlement Music School faculty and instructors from science oriented institutions in the Greater Cleveland area. Over 100 children in the Pre-kindergarten classes participate in the Smithsonian Early Learning Initiative (ELI), a multi-disciplinary program that provides experiences at 10 cultural institutions.

Students enjoy their weekly visit to the Discovery Room where everything is hands-on learning. A science teacher presents various science-based themes and encourages students to play, document, make inferences and test hypotheses during creative exploration.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is an important part of students’ school experiences. Rhythmic body movement, Orff percussion instruments and creative singing make this a favorite part of the day.

A wonderful library provides family and classroom resources. The preschool librarian leads children in activities and stories to augment classroom learning.

PhotoPreschool

The preschool offers many options for those interested in a half-day program. Depending on the child’s age, parents may choose a 2, 3, 4 or 5-day program. The preschool day runs from 8:45-11:30am or 12:45-3:30pm. Children who are enrolled in 3, 4 or 5-day morning classes may also participate in the Extended Day program, which offers additional arts enrichment. An enjoyable social time for students is Lunch Bunch, when students bring their lunches to eat with friends.

Day School

The Day School is a full-day program, 5 days a week. The program runs for 49 weeks and includes a 2-week break in August. An optional 45-week program is also available with an additional 4 weeks off in July. To accommodate working parents, the Day School begins at 7:00am and runs until 5:45pm. A light breakfast is served as well as morning and afternoon snacks. The same arts and science-enriched curriculum for the Preschool is provided for Day School students along with daily indoor and outdoor play and a supervised rest/nap time.Graphic

Registration

An Open House in November begins the registration procedure for the following school year. Visits in December for prospective parents are scheduled at this time with a second visit for parents and child. Applications must be in by the first week of February. Acceptance letters are mailed by the middle of the month. A wait list is maintained for applications received after the deadline.
